If you have decided to move lock, stock and barrel, then you must have already sorted all the things in your home by now. You must have already decided what to take and what to leave. Although sorting all your things is may seem an easy process, it is best that you again cross check everything that you want to take and what you want to leave. You must also remember that something that is not important to you can always be more tempting to someone else. One candlestick or one glass is items that someone else may really want, although they may seem unimportant to you. Remember, people are always on the hunt for odd stuff.

Some of the items that you can put up for the estate sales include, household items, kitchen appliances, magazines, linens, sporting equipment and baby items. Before you organize an estate sale, you must give yourself at least two weeks time to prepare. Your preparation will also include the advertising that you need to do. Just make sure that you pick a day when the chances of people coming are more. Weekends for instance are good days to conduct the sale.

The key to the successful conduct of estate sales lies in proper advertising of the event. The best means still is by placing an advertisement in the local newspaper. Just in case your neighborhood has its own newspaper, you can place your ad in both the local as well as your neighborhood newspaper. Your ad should be large enough to attract the attention of people. After all what is the use of an ad that hardly stands out. While designing your advertisement copy, you need to include things such as the time and the exact venue where the estate sale is going to take place. You can also additionally include a list of the ‘hot’ items that you are going to put up on sale. You should preferably place the at least two days before the estate sales and let it run till the day of the event.

Another advertising option is to go in for signs in your neighborhood. You can put them up in places where there is greater movement of people such as in grocery stores or the local departmental store. You can also post them on the bulletin boards which are common with some businesses. If you have a college or university nearby, you can also post the signs there since students are always looking for cheap stuff.
