Contrary to what many people think estate sales are almost always a hit. This is because there are certain odd items that you can find only in an estate sale and not in a store. Preparing for an estate sale though will require some effort and time. There are many things that you need to consider before you organize the sale. The first thing that you need to decide upon is the day on which you want to have your sale. Keep a careful eye on the weather forecast and try and conduct it on a weekend. Try keeping a sheep of plastic with you, just in case it begins to rains. The next thing that you need to decide before an estate sale is the place where you want to have it. The garage is the favorite with many, along with the front yard. In fact estate sale is also known as garage sale for this very reason. Then comes the most important thing that you need to decide on. This lies in deciding the items that you want to put up on sale. After a careful analysis of all the items in your home, make a list of things that you want to put up for sale. You should also take care to ensure that everyone in the neighborhood knows that you are having an estate sale. Advertising should be your top priority. Make sure that you place ads in the local, as well as neighborhood newspapers. Most newspapers these days have a separate section meant for estate sale these days. Dont forget to put up a short list of the items that you will be selling at the estate sale in your ad. Signs are another way to advertising an estate sale. The signs should be designed in such a way that they are bright and instantly attract people attention. The signs should be put up at prominent locations in your neighborhood. Once you have taken care of all these aspects, then comes another important thing that you need to decide on. The display of the various items that you want to put up on sale. You should take care to display the items neatly and in an organized way. For instance you should allocate a separate place for displaying baby clothes. Similarly glassware should be displayed in another place and so on and so forth. You should also put up prices on all the items on display using stickers. Once the estate sale starts, you should also be prepared to negotiate for certain deals. While you may stand firm on the prices of some items, there are many other small items where you can negotiate for the best bargain. © 2010 Estate Sale Management |
